ーーー
We are very happy to inform you that on August 25, 2010 we inaugurated the Center for Japanese Studies of the University of Bucharest (Romania). This Center’s main objective is to conduct, promote and support research in the field of Japanese studies. The Center has the support of the Japan Foundation, of the Embassy of Japan to Romania, as well as of other institutions and individuals in Romania and Japan.
Over the past 5 years, the University of Bucharest has conducted a series of joint research projects with partner universities in Japan and has hosted Japanese studies specialists from European universities through the Erasmus Program, for lectures, conferences and workshops on various themes.
As a first international event of the Center for Japanese Studies, we are planning a three day international symposium on Japanese studies, from 4 to 6 March, 2011. The (provisional) title of the symposium is “Japanese Cultural and Linguistic Identity”.
The symposium will feature several keynote lectures on the theme given by invited professors from Japan and Europe. One of the keynote speakers will be Mr. Oriza Hirata, who has already confirmed his participation. After the keynote lectures, there will be sessions of 20 minute presentations by young researchers in Europe.
We are hereby inviting you to participate in this symposium and make such a 20 minute presentation on one of the following topics, along the lines of the general theme of the symposium:
- linguistics
- literature
- mentalities / philosophy / religion
- sociology
- economy
etc.
If you accept our invitation, please send a message with your name, affiliation and the (provisional) title of your presentation by November 25, 2010 to romanpasca@gmail.com.
International and domestic transportation, accommodation in Bucharest and meals will be provided. All participants are expected to take part in all three days of the symposium.
The proceedings of the symposium will be published in 2011.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
